Isa 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
It is assumed that Lucifer was once a powerful angel who sinned and was therefore cast down to earth, where he is making trouble for God’s people.
First of all, the verse doesn’t say Satan fell from heaven, it says Lucifer and there is not a single verse in the bible that says Satan is Lucifer, watch this, this verse is given the different names for Satan.
Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Do you notice a name that was not mentioned? Lucifer! That is because Lucifer is not Satan.
The words “devil”, “Satan” and “angel” never occur in isaiah14 This is the only place in Scripture where the word “Lucifer” occurs.
Let’s read Isiah 14 in its context.
The context started in Isaiah chapter 13, that is when TMH( the most high) started speaking against Babylon, this is when Israel was in captivity under babylon.
Isa 13:1 The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see.
Isa 13:19 And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
Isa 14:1 For the LORD will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land: and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob.
Despite Israel being wicked, The Most High still chose Israel. He said he would placed Israel back in their homeland.
Isa 14:2 And the people shall take them, and bring them to their place: and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the LORD for servants and handmaids: and they shall take them captives, whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors.
Yah said he would bring us back to the land and we would rule over the oppressors.
[Isa 14:3 KJV] 3 And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve,
We understand true rest is the rest that Christ came to give, but when Isaiah said this prophecy it was talking about a physical rest from the captivity they was in. Now read this next verse carefully because it is going to set the stage for the next following verses.
[Isa 14:4 KJV] 4 That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!
One day people would take up these words, speaking to them in reference to the kingdom of babylon. He’s talking about the city of Babylon coming to an end. At this time, the city of Babylon was the ruling power on earth. All the nations were subject to Babylon, at that time.
Nebecudnezzer was arguably the most famous king of Babylon. He fits a part of this prophecy but not all of it, he is not the king of Babylon that Isaiah is talking about in this verse.
Babylon is being ceased from power under this king, who was the king ruling Babylon when Babylon fell?
Dan 5:1 Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.
Dan 5:2 Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein
Dan 5:3 Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.
Dan 5:4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.
Belshazzar reign after Nebuchadnezzar, he was prideful and completely disrespected the holy vessels of the most high. While doing this he received a message on the wall from the most high.
Dan 5:5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king’s palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
The king called for Daniel the prophet to translate the writing becuase no one else could.
[Dan 5:17 KJV] 17 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation
If Nebuchadnezzar wanted to kill or spare a life, he did it. The Most High gave him this authority.
The king was able to do anything he wanted to do until he got prideful. At one point he wasn’t prideful, he was in alignment with The Most High.
[Dan 5:18-20 KJV] 18 O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour: 19 And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down. 20 But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him
When he started feeling himself and got prideful, he was taken down from his kingly throne and his glory was taken from him.
We going to skip some verses but basically the chapters spoke about the judgment Nebuchadnezzar received but eventually he repented and turned back to the most high.
[Dan 4:37 KJV] 37 Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works [are] truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.
Now we know even though Nebuchadnezzar became prideful he later repented and the most high did not destroy Babylon under him. Now back to Beshaazar.
[Dan 5:21 KJV] 21 And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling [was] with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and [that] he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.
He was turned into an animal due to his pride until he knew that The Most High is the one who sets up thrones and takes them down.
[Dan 5:22 KJV] 22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this
But Belshazzar, in spite of the warning afforded by Nebuchadnezzar’s fate, has sinned still more deeply and became more prideful.
Dan 5:23 KJV] 23 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath [is], and whose [are] all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:
The Most High wanted Belshazzar to serve him.
Dan 5:24-28 KJV] 24 Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written. 25 And this [is] the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. 26 This [is] the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it. 27 TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting. 28 PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
The writing on the wall said that Belshazzar would fall to the Persian medes empire because of his pride.
[Dan 5:30-31 KJV] 30 In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain. 31 And Darius the Median took the kingdom, [being] about threescore and two years old.
This is the king who was ruling babylon when it ceased from power, he was the oppressor. Let’s pick it up at Isaiah 14 where we left.
Isa 14:4 That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased
Isa 14:5 The LORD hath broken the staff of the wicked, and the sceptre of the rulers.
Isa 14:6 He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth.
He= the king of Babylon, we still in the same context.
Isa 14:7 The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing.
Isa 14:8 Yea, the fir trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us.
Thee = king of Babylon, Thou = king of Babylon. Not Satan.
Isa 14:9 Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.
Isa 14:10 All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us?
The verse is still talking about the king of Babylon, how when is he finally brought down from his power, the other people he oppressed would look at him and say how did you fall and become just like us.
Isa 14:11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.
Isa 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
Who’s the thou? Who have we been reading about this entire time? Satan or the king of Babylon? Read verse 4 for the answer.
We need to understand heaven in the bible is not always talking about where Christ and the most high is, the sky can be considered heaven, the firmament or being in a place of power.
For example, in Genesis 1:8, the Bible states, “And God called the firmament Heaven.” This shows that “heaven” can denote the expanse above the earth—what we commonly refer to as the sky.
Daniel 4:22 It is thou, O king, that art grown and become strong: for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.
Here, Nebuchadnezzar’s power and greatness are described as reaching “unto heaven,” clearly referring to the height and extent of his earthly rule.
When Jerome translated the Hebrew Bible into Latin in 382 AD, he used the term “Lucifer” to translate the Hebrew word “Hayalal,” meaning “morning star.” His goal was not to name Satan but to find an appropriate Latin term for “Hayalal.” If this translation implied Satan’s name was “Lucifer,” one would need to find “Hayalal” meaning Satan in the Hebrew Scriptures.
When the King James Version (KJV), translators used “Lucifer” from the Latin Vulgate rather than translating directly from Hebrew. Had they translated “Hayalal” directly into English, it would have been rendered as “morning star” instead of “Lucifer.
That is why when you read Isaih 14:12 in other translation they corrected it and do not translate it as lucifer.
Isa 14:12 ESV “How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low.
Isa 14:12 YLT How hast thou fallen from the heavens, O shining one, son of the dawn! Thou hast been cut down to earth, O weakener of nations.
Notice how in verse 12 every word is different except Lucifer that is because the word Lucifer is a latin word.
Job 11:17 et quasi meridianus fulgor consurget tibi ad vesperam et cum te consumptum putaveris orieris ut lucifer
Job 11:17 And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.
One is in the Latin, I also showed the English version. Is this verse talking about Satan? No!
Point is notice how the Latin put Lucifer and the English put as the morning.
Isa 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
I thought Satan was already in heaven, why would this be about Satan.
Isa 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
Isa 14:15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
I = king of Babylon, thou = king of Babylon
All this means is that this king will be brought down to a low state, not a literal hell. It’s about falling from prominence.
Jonah 2: 1 I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.
Mat 11:23 KJV] 23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
Being brought down to hell is talking about losing your status. Yahawashi is saying that if these things that are happening this land happened in Sodom, they would have repented.
Belshazzar was to lose all his power and his kingdom. People were to question about the king being the one who brought the kingdoms down and made the earth to shake
Isa 14:17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?
Isa 14:18 All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house.
When a king died, they would lay them in s glorious tomb.
Isa 14:19 But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet.
Belshazzar wouldn’t have a glorious grave and fame like the other kings. His body was to be trodden under the feet of men.
Isa 14:20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.
This king would not have a glorious tomb like the other kings of the nations because he was killing his own people.
Isa 14:21 Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.
The Medo-Persian Empire would be the instrument of this divine judgment, ensuring the Babylonian dynasty’s complete erasure from power.
This was about cutting off the legacy, wiping out any chance of a resurgence or return to dominance. The once-proud rulers of Babylon, who exalted themselves, would have no heir to carry on their name or rebuild their fallen empire.
